Nidaros Blues April 24-28 2013

Another great festival in Trondheim at Nidaros Blues April 24-28th 2013.

Diunna Greenleaf was pure dynamite on stage with her awesome guitar player Jonn Del Toro Richardson. The Paladins really rocked the house. That's the first time I've attended one of their gigs. The young norwegian blues band Yngve & His Boogie Legs are gettin' better and better. Always having a ball watching them.
We got New Jersey rock from Asbury Park with Southside Johnny. My second time and this was the best one. Samantha Fish and Nikki Hill did great and I'm just waiting for the next chance to see them. And the jam sessions at Nidaros Blues are always a blast. :-)
Here are some pics.

Monica Heldal at Folk & Blues Stage. A young artist inspired by Nick Drake among others. Her personal form of folk-music includes large doses of country, blues and roots, and is timelessly beautiful, with a depth that is extraordinary. Homepage.

Mud Morganfield at Hovigs Hangar. Muddy's son - sounds like the old man. :-)

Notodden Blues Festival 2013: Royal Southern Brotherhood

Another great blues festival at Notodden! The best ever??

Royal Southern Brotherhood is an american blues and blues rock supergroup, and members are singer and percussionist Cyril Neville, vocalist and guitarist Devon Allman, vocalist and guitarist Mike Zito, drummer Yonrico Scott, and bassist Charlie Wooton. The band released their debut album on May 8, 2012.

Their two concerts at Notodden are definately among the top 10 gigs ever at the festival! I'm already looking forward to next chance in Oslo in November.

Trampled Under Foot at Norsia-Delta Blues Festival May 17 2013

Danielle rocked
Trampled Under Foot were awesome at Norsia-Delta Blues Festival at Hønefoss May 17th!

TUF won the Blues Foundation’s 24th International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis in 2009 and they are a family band; Nick Schnebelen – guitars and vocals, Danielle Schnebelen – lead vocals and bass, and Kris Schnebelen on drums.

This time Danielle was in front most of the concert and had much more the lead vocals than before. She may have the best female voice in the blues today and it's still developing. Nick who won the prestigious Albert King Award as best guitarplayer at the IBC in 2009, is excellent at both vocals and guitar as never before.

I just love this band. TUF with Danielle, Nick and Kris are perhaps the most upcoming blues band in the world today. Check them out: Trampled Under Foot - homepage

Kris - A safe and steady drummer
Norsia-Delta Blues Festival is a small blues festival, and 2013 was the first year for the festival. A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered in front of the stage inside the blues tent when the talented siblings entered Friday night and blew us away.

I attended the festival Friday night only and returned home Saturday. I was lucky. Saturday afternoon a terrible rain storm tore the festival area partially apart and the concerts were cancelled or moved indoors.

Friday however was amazing.  I'll be back for the entire festival next year.
